Surprise Party

Its always a pleasure when you build lasting relationships with your clients and are able to work with them to plan all of the memorable occasions in their family.  From graduations to surprise birthday parties, its always an honor.  I met Alan several years ago when he contacted me about planning a surprise birthday party for his wife Michele.  We had a blast planning it and she was beyond surprised, so when it came time for Alans 60th birthday Michele wanted to return the favor and contacted us.  We couldn’t have been more excited to pull off a surprise party for Alan.

In our initial meeting with Michele she told us a little more about Alans interests.  Not only is he a Kidney doctor which we already knew, but he is a lover of sci-fi, old Hollywood style and a lover of movies.  With this in mind we wanted the décor and feel for the event to be very chic and masculine without being cliché. Therefore, we went with a masculine yet sophisticated color scheme of Black, Silver and burgundy.  We pulled in different patterns and textures to bring depth and interest to the style of the event.  The greek key linen was one of our favorites.   That combined with Crinkle taffeta and satin linens with the punch of red in the napkins and flowers, really set the tone for an upscale birthday party.

Guests were treated to a plated dinner, dancing and an open bar.

Other special touches of the event included a wish tree that the guests were able to write “scripts” /wishes  for the birthday boy.  The photobooth is always a big hit with this family so we knew this party would not be complete without it and what party would be complete without desserts.  Not only was there birthday cake but several different dessert options that the guests could choose from.

The most difficult part of the planning was keeping the party a surprise, because all of Alans friends, family and colleagues were attending.   However, the surprise was a success and he couldn’t have been happier.  Thank you Michele, Alan and family, it was a sincere pleasure being a part of such a special day. Happy Birthday!

Cohen/Bohland Wedding

Please meet Sarah & Chris!

This Fun loving couple tied the knot on June 15 at the Beautiful Toledo Country Club.  We had the pleasure of working with Sarah and Chris from the moment they got engaged and assisted the with the design and coordination of their event.  They selected a beautiful, modern and crisp color palate of grey, white and shades of pinks and peach.

Their Stationery was one of my favorite to date.  I love the variations of type.

The cake was created by Sugar Shack Specialty Sweets and was a show stopper for sure

The custom banner that graced the dessert table was from The Elite Events Boutique.

We beautified the Bride and Grooms chairs with Ombre ribbon to give them just an added special touch.  Sarah LOVED it!

The rain stopped just in time for the ceremony and then stayed away for all to enjoy the night outside! Thankfully it stayed away, but it did have us worried for most of the day :)

Sarah & Chris, we thank you so much for allowing us to be a part of your special day and we wish you forever love and happiness!!!

What's Hot and What's Not: Weddings 2013

Elite Event’s 2013 Weddings What’s Hot & Whats Not!

OUT: Photobooths with Cheesy Props

IN: High Tech Smart Phone Apps

Every event big or small seems to have a photo booth fully equipped with mustache’s, Hot  lips and chalkboard props. Save money and take advantage of Apps like the locally designed “photo twine” which allows your guests to become the paparazzi.

You can even give your guests a must take picture list to
keep the creative juices flowing! Feel free to check out what a morning with us is like behind the scenes at WNWO! ON phototwine event name Elite Events WNWO Event Code: UCPWUK (see details below)

OUT:Traditional Meals & Buffets

IN: Grazing Stations or Seated Trio’s

Buffets take forever to get through and typically do not offer much for originality. Since so many guests have particular diets stay away from the one menu fits all approach opt for grazing stations which keep guest mingling and enjoying several different food experiences throughout the evening Or if you want to have a formal seating experience offer a Trio so that all guests have choices and you do not have to track their food preferences.

OUT: Large Bridal Parties Dressed in Traditional Bridesmaids dresses

IN: Intimate Groups Coordinated to Express Who They Are

We have seen the horrors of a bridesmaid on an ego trip one too many times before. The more members in your bridal party, the more opinions and people you are expected to please. Your wedding shouldn’t be about your entourage but those who truly know, love and are willing to support you. Helpful hint: Let them select a dress or an outfit that coordinates with your event but reflects who they are as a person. We are in love with this new look.

Out: The“Isle Moment”

In: The 1st Look

Instead of seeing each other for the first time at the altar, have a big reveal before hand with just you two and your photographer. A few of the leading photographers in the area will not even shoot your wedding if you are not having a first look. We love it because it gives the couple all the time they need to say what they want privately and not feel rushed trying to squeeze photos into a small time slot after the wedding.

OUT: Standard Ceremony Set Up with Ushers and Program Attendants

IN: Circular ceremony seats with pathways

Recite your vows literally surrounded by your friends and
family using a circular floor plan. Instead of spending time and money on
programs save some trees! As your guests arrive make them laugh cry and learn
about your special ceremony through signage on a path that leads them to the
ceremony. The last sign can say “As two families become one, choose a seat not
a side”

OUT: Themes or Colors

IN: A Coordinated Experience

No more Tropical themed weddings or All Pink & Black decorations. Instead choose a color palate that compliments your surroundings and you. Your guests shouldn’t have to choke down your favorite colors which clash with the building or look at every little detail you have in a zebra theme, instead Have custom baked goods in black and white and accent a zebra pattern on a few Or if you have to use hot pink don’t force your attendants to wear it and your guests to eat off of it. Decorate with Neutrals then accent your color with up lighting to make a classy but BIG statement everyone will love.

OUT: Typical Wedding DJ and Music

IN: Club Dj or Cover Bands

Of course you want all of your guests to feel comfortable on the dance floor, but I am sure everyone is tired of dancing to Sweet Caroline, Shout and The way you look tonight. Have a Dj that can spin and add remixes to the same old same old. When its time to take it up a notch the DJ will kick it up into a club setting which makes everyone feel comfortable
and want to break it down.

If your not a fan of Dj’s hire a cover band that will keep things lively and fun! Make sure you are picky on the band and have heard them play a few times, you want them to look like a part of your event and play what your comfortable with.

Decor ideas for Fall:

Not everyone has time or money to update your home décor for
the new season. For those of you who know what you want but just do not have
the time to make it happen we will come to you! Our seasonal & celebration
design will transform your home into a warm welcoming place where friends and
family can make lasting memories. Here has we put together this beautiful fresh
take on a table setting that will look good from October through December.

This fall, I am falling in love with warm jewel
tones! I think it is a nice break from the reds and oranges which have been
done so many times before.  I paired this
purple table setting with a lovely metallic gold charger and brought in accents
from the outdoors with a natural wood table runner, then I incorporated a pop
of warmth with a rich plum colored napkin. For the final touch I got crafty and
made place card holders from a mini pumpkin by covering it in glitter, which
really jazzed up the whole table setting.

*Designer Tip: To
make your room feel elegant I like to leave my dining table set throughout the
day, not just for dinner. It keeps the table from becoming a dumping ground for
book bags & mail and anytime you are snapping photos in the house you have
a nice looking table in your background!

Additional details and Statement Arrangements

Once again using warm jewel tones our Floral
Designer Sharon Johnson has put together a beautiful arrangement that is
cohesive with the table setting. Another departure from the Oranges and Reds We
added a white pumpkin and incorporated natural twigs to keep the outdoor
element consistent.

Since this particular design can work for a few months you may want to opt for
artificial flowers or speak with our floral department about changing them out

Remember to burn scented candles to fill your home with the aromas of pumpkin space or cinnamon apple cider. We love these tiered glass candle holders which pair with our metallic’s and keep everything looking elegant.

A nice added touch that we give our home décor clients is seasonal custom stationary. Your note pads, thank you cards, holiday party invitations and menu’s will be cohesive with your custom seasonal décor, like this framed menu which coordinates with the design of the table.

We see a lot of clients who get on pinterest and think they can DIY there event or home décor.  Thankfully there are now some debunking blogs out there proving that not every
project turns out pinterest perfect. More often that not we find that when its
all said and done they just prefer to spend a little bit more money and have it
done right by professionals who have access to décor items that you can rent
instead of having to purchase or pinterest. BUT should you want to get crafty
here are some pre approved pinterest projects that you  and even the kiddo’s can easily and inexpensively pull off.

DIY Decor

An Easy Décor idea: Tip #1: If you do not already own a nice large glass vessel or apothecary jar, invest in 1 or 2 or 3! They are beautiful and a must have for any holiday or any season for that matter!  Here I have used my glass apothecary jar and filled it with seasonal  gourds & mini pumpkins.  For Easter I filled the same container with Easter eggs and for Christmas I filled it with ornaments.  it versatile, beautiful and is the perfect vessel for a quick and inexpensive accent piece that can be placed anywhere in your home for virtually any season.

Gift Giving Decor

For a fast gift that even the kids can help make: Yarn wrapped letters
I decided to incorporate the warm jewel tones again in this accent piece
but you can choose whatever color you think is best for the person your giving
it to!

You will need a foam or wooden
letter, Yarn, glue gun & some flowers or other accent. Simply wrap the yarn
around the letter being careful to only glue small spots on the back side. If
you make any mistakes don’t worry because you can cover it with your accent
décor item! Our particular letter is a little on the large side but you can opt for a much smaller letter and double it as a gift that can be then placed at their place setting it can even double as their seat marker.  The possibilities are endless.  The same concept can be applied to bottles that you can reuse and cover with year which can then hold flowers or serve as just a great piece alone!

I hope we have inspired you to step outside the box this fall season with some of our fall favorites and tips for decorating this fall!
