Pantone Color of the Year for 2014 – Radiant Orchid!

Radiant Orchid

Day 1 of the 2014 Designer Challenge came with strategic selections of images that we wanted to portray as a vintage radiant orchid wedding. We decided to choose the above images for the following reasons. The bouquet that was chosen shows the radiant orchid that we were striving for in many different tones and a variety of beautiful flowers. We admire the above table setting because the tall vase with flowers blooming over the top set off the look of the overall setting. The table also shows wine glasses with radiant orchid napkins that stand tall and bring the whole piece together. Above we displayed creative decoration tags that show inspirational quotes and a farewell from the bride and groom that guests can take with them. The wedding cake brings elegance and a vintage look that will make heads turn to admire its stature. The ladder is used to display various flowers and a mirror to show the dinner menu in a creative, vintage style. We decided to choose the wedding dress because it’s a classical white dress, but it spiced up with the radiant orchid crinoline. Finally, we chose this style of wedding invitation because it is unique with it’s wooden look, as well as, portraying the vintage theme in advance to the guests of the wedding.

2014 Designer Challenge

Faith Love and Marriage October 6th 2012

Mr. & Mrs. Jeremy & Natalie Macke gave us the
pleasure of helping them through every aspect of their wedding as Full Planning
Clients. When we first met Natalie and her mother Monica they wanted to go over
the details of our contract very carefully, which was a good sign for us. We
knew right away that this was going to be a client who would
communicate to us exactly what they want and with that, we would be able to
guide them to the wedding of their dreams. Natalie is honest, humble and
beautiful inside and out, which made working for her and Jeremy not only
pleasurable but an honor. Since Faith is the cornerstone of their lives, we
wanted to make sure that guests felt that presence throughout the wedding. When looking through the photos below notice that Natalie and Jeremy are not just posing they are praying. You will see details such as crosses, bibles and tables named after bible verses. Our classic conservative couple used a color palate blending neutral champagnes with hues of greys then added an elegant touch of purples which we felt paired beautifully with the Toledo Country Clubs interior. From concept to completion you can see how we captured Natalie’s soft kind nature, Jeremy’s consistent commitment to her and their shared love for the outdoors all while telling their story of Faith Love & Marriage.

Decor ideas for Fall:

Not everyone has time or money to update your home décor for
the new season. For those of you who know what you want but just do not have
the time to make it happen we will come to you! Our seasonal & celebration
design will transform your home into a warm welcoming place where friends and
family can make lasting memories. Here has we put together this beautiful fresh
take on a table setting that will look good from October through December.

This fall, I am falling in love with warm jewel
tones! I think it is a nice break from the reds and oranges which have been
done so many times before.  I paired this
purple table setting with a lovely metallic gold charger and brought in accents
from the outdoors with a natural wood table runner, then I incorporated a pop
of warmth with a rich plum colored napkin. For the final touch I got crafty and
made place card holders from a mini pumpkin by covering it in glitter, which
really jazzed up the whole table setting.

*Designer Tip: To
make your room feel elegant I like to leave my dining table set throughout the
day, not just for dinner. It keeps the table from becoming a dumping ground for
book bags & mail and anytime you are snapping photos in the house you have
a nice looking table in your background!

Additional details and Statement Arrangements

Once again using warm jewel tones our Floral
Designer Sharon Johnson has put together a beautiful arrangement that is
cohesive with the table setting. Another departure from the Oranges and Reds We
added a white pumpkin and incorporated natural twigs to keep the outdoor
element consistent.

Since this particular design can work for a few months you may want to opt for
artificial flowers or speak with our floral department about changing them out
frequently.

Remember to burn scented candles to fill your home with the aromas of pumpkin space or cinnamon apple cider. We love these tiered glass candle holders which pair with our metallic’s and keep everything looking elegant.

Stationary

A nice added touch that we give our home décor clients is seasonal custom stationary. Your note pads, thank you cards, holiday party invitations and menu’s will be cohesive with your custom seasonal décor, like this framed menu which coordinates with the design of the table.

We see a lot of clients who get on pinterest and think they can DIY there event or home décor.  Thankfully there are now some debunking blogs out there proving that not every
project turns out pinterest perfect. More often that not we find that when its
all said and done they just prefer to spend a little bit more money and have it
done right by professionals who have access to décor items that you can rent
instead of having to purchase or pinterest. BUT should you want to get crafty
here are some pre approved pinterest projects that you  and even the kiddo’s can easily and inexpensively pull off.

DIY Decor

An Easy Décor idea: Tip #1: If you do not already own a nice large glass vessel or apothecary jar, invest in 1 or 2 or 3! They are beautiful and a must have for any holiday or any season for that matter!  Here I have used my glass apothecary jar and filled it with seasonal  gourds & mini pumpkins.  For Easter I filled the same container with Easter eggs and for Christmas I filled it with ornaments.  it versatile, beautiful and is the perfect vessel for a quick and inexpensive accent piece that can be placed anywhere in your home for virtually any season.

Gift Giving Decor

For a fast gift that even the kids can help make: Yarn wrapped letters
I decided to incorporate the warm jewel tones again in this accent piece
but you can choose whatever color you think is best for the person your giving
it to!

You will need a foam or wooden
letter, Yarn, glue gun & some flowers or other accent. Simply wrap the yarn
around the letter being careful to only glue small spots on the back side. If
you make any mistakes don’t worry because you can cover it with your accent
décor item! Our particular letter is a little on the large side but you can opt for a much smaller letter and double it as a gift that can be then placed at their place setting it can even double as their seat marker.  The possibilities are endless.  The same concept can be applied to bottles that you can reuse and cover with year which can then hold flowers or serve as just a great piece alone!

I hope we have inspired you to step outside the box this fall season with some of our fall favorites and tips for decorating this fall!

An Elite Events Experience: Emily & Nate's Big Day!

Emily and Nate’s Wedding Day was nothing short of perfection.   I am sincerely honored and delighted to have been able to work side by side this couple for the last 20 months!  For those of you interested In the design process we go through with our full planning clients I hope you will enjoy this very detailed post or what we like to call the “Elite Events Experience!”   For those just interested in viewing all of the gorgeous images, feel free to skip along to the pictures :)

Emily and Nate are an adorable and super fun couple, who came to me in October 2009 looking for assistance with design & coordination for their wedding that was set to take place July 16, 2011. During our first consultation Emily Expressed a few things that she felt were fairly important to the significance of her wedding day.

1.  Food

  • She envisioned Lots of delicious food. Food doesn’t have to be fancy in order to taste good.
  • Would love to have Yuengling Beer one of Nate’s favorite Beers imported from Pennsylvania.

2.  Location

  • She desired a location that was convenient for her guests.  If possible she would like to have the ceremony and reception  in the same location. This location should be naturally beautiful without much additional decoration.

3.  Look and Feel

  •  The reception would have a intimate and romantic feel with romantic with simple eye catching statement centerpieces, accompanied with many details and personal touches.
  • She envisioned a fun yet classy environment where her guests could enjoy great food, drinks and atmosphere.
  • She loved the color purple

Taking all of these things into consideration, I hit the ground running and began researching some different options for Emily & Nate.  After touring several different venues all with a very different feel and design aesthetic we came upon the Toledo Museum of Arts Glass Pavilion.

I can honestly say the moment Emily entered the Pavilion her decision was made.  Her face lit up and she could not stop smiling. While walking through the pavilion with Emily she shared with me her personal experiences with the museum through various classes she had taken there.  To be exact she described how much she LOVED glass blowing and what could be more perfect than the Glass Pavilion.  On Display at the Glass pavilion is one of Dale Chihuly’s famous glass chandelier pieces as well as a hot shop in which passer buyers can witness a glass blowing demonstration.

From this moment on we had our Location for both the ceremony and reception as well as a possibly design direction.  With some images that Emily had provided me with and information I had gathered through various conceptual design meetings I began working on the Conceptual Design of Emily & Nate’s Wedding.

  • It begins with a color scheme.  Now that we had our ceremony and reception decided, I wanted to be sure the color scheme selected would complement the existing spaces and represent the fun, eye catching design Emily desired.  Emily & Nate are such a fun and sophisticated couple, I wanted their wedding to reflect their personal style!
  • Next, I worked to create a moodboard. This moodboard represented  elements in which Emily had expressed to me were of importance to her event. Images were carefully selected in order to achieve and  an overall cohesiveness that would lend itself beautifully to the Glass Pavilion.

A moodboard is a type of poster design that may consist of images, text, and samples of objects in a composition in an effort to develop design concepts and to communicate to the client the overall & anticipated end result of a design.

All of My Planning & Conceptual Design clients receive custom made moodboards tailored for their event.

Details about images selected for Moodboard:

  1. We envisioned a signature drink offered to guests as they entered the ceremony location: something cool and refreshing since the ceremony was being held outdoors. This particular drink also coordinated with her color scheme.  For Emily and Nate’s wedding we opted for a chilled white grape juice garnished with frozen grapes.
  2. Since the food was an important part of Emilys vision I thought I would show her some alternative food presentations.  TMA did a fabulous job with the presentation of all of the food for Emily and Nate’s wedding.
  3. This particular color combo translated beautifully in a suit and tie combo, and the vibrant purple calla lily pulls in the main color in a subtle way.  This was the inspiration behind Nate and his groomsmen’s apparel and flower selection.
  4. The purple envelope and silver ink look great together, something we contemplated during the invitation design.
  5. This image represented a nice inexpensive centerpiece option for our smaller cocktail tables. Instead of the purple water we opted to stay consistent with the other arrangements and use purple crushed glass and float a purple orchid in the place of a candle.
  6. At first we tossed around the idea of using a silver table runner, then decided on a gunmetal silver pin tuck overlay, which would be rested upon a deep purple floor length linen.
  7. This was a beautiful and unique inspiration for our ceremony isle decor
  8. I loved how this centerpiece made a statement, yet was very refined.  We made a few changes such as added some green grasses, placed the purple crushed glasses in side of the vases and flanked the arrangements with smaller floating orchids as well as led candlelight.
  9. Emily loves sweets. We were back and forth on whether or not to incorporate a sweets station at the reception, and decided to incorporate Emily and Nate’s favorite sweets in the guests welcome bags.

10.  A beautiful ceremony backdrop very similar to TMA’s.  Emily had mentioned early on she envisioned getting married under a chuppah.  After deciding on utilizing the streamline look of the white twigs and just various statement pops of color, we opted for a birch wedding arbor that our Florist swagged with a beautiful with fabric and strategically placed vibrant purple orchids.  In the back we had a beautiful crystal curtain that anchored the Bride and groom and reflected light marvelously.

11.  Embracing the hand blown glass design, Emily really wanted to give her guests a gift that they would enjoy receiving, and something that they would keep around for years to come.  She envisioned a hand blow glass ornament that coordinated with her color scheme.  After searching for several months of searching we finally found the perfect artist who offered to create custom pieces for us, that doubled as the guests escort cards!

12.   Emily’s girls were wearing beautiful purple dressed designed by Dessy. If an effort to incorporate the bow feature from Emily’s dress as well as the grey from the  men’s suites I selected a grey shoe that embraced both elements as an inspiration for a shoe option for the girls.

After the Moodboard was complete and approved by Emily & Nate we moved right along to selecting vendors who could carry out our vision as well as the designing the Save the Dates and Invitations.

Embracing the Glass Pavilion and Dale Chihuly’s work I worked to create a custom graphic that resembled one of Dales famous glass chandeliers.

The inspiration:

This graphic would then be translated into most of Emily & Nate’s wedding stationary such as: Save the Dates, Invitations, Custom Monogram, Wedding Programs, Table numbers, place cards, menu cards and even favor boxes.  Creating a custom graphic and or monogram helps to differentiate and personalize your event.

Next we worked with a fabulous cake designer to create a wedding cake that reflected our theme. Emily was able to find the cutest cake toppers on Etsy of her family including her cats :)

Once we receive the final numbers we work with the Bride & Groom (Emily & Nate) to finalize and order the linens as well as sketch out the placement of the lines and coordinating centerpieces.

The few weeks leading up to the Big Day we contact all vendors involved in the wedding and confirm all details as well as schedule arrival times. This information gets plugged into the wedding day timeline that we then send out to all vendors and bridal party members ensuring that everyone is on the same page and know exactly where to be, and when to be there :)

Day of wedding you can rest assured that all of your needs and desires will be met, as Elite Events has a “lady in waiting” there as your personal assistant. When providing event design for our full planning clients we will also have a team at the reception site receiving deliveries, greeting vendors, and setting up personal items. We stay until the conclusion of your event ensuring that all matters are taken care of and that you and your guests do not have to worry about a thing!
